The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has officially protested against Indian Border Security Force's (BSF) allegation against the BGB of supporting cattle smuggling.

On July 13, The Indian Express published a report titled "BSF: Border Guard Bangladesh supports cattle smuggling."

The report referring to a press statement, signed by the BSF's South Bengal Frontier DIG SS Guleria, said that the BSF had claimed that the BGB had been supporting cattle smuggling from India.

A BGB statement signed by its Public Relations Officer Shariful Islam on Sunday termed the news and the statement totally baseless and fabricated.

The statement also raised question about the inaction of the BSF to curb the cattle smuggling.

"Indian cattle smugglers are very interested in smuggling cattle into Bangladesh to make more profits. As a result, Bangladeshi cattle farmers incur losses," BGB said.

The BGB statement also said, "In this context, the BGB has taken a very strict stance against the smuggling of cattle. It is assumed that the news was published in the Indian media mainly to cover up the BSF's failure to prevent cattle smuggling."
