Border Guard Bangladesh Director General (DG) Major General Md Shafeenul Islam on Sunday said that economic development of the bordering people as well as increasing diplomatic activities can reduce border killing.

"Besides, public awareness should be raised among the border area," the BGB DG said while responding to reporters about border killing after inaugurating the BGB-Day 2020 programmes through hoisting BGB's regimental flags atop BGB headquarters in the capital today morning.

"It is possible to bring down the number of border killings to zero through diplomatic activities along with public awareness and economic development of the border people," the DG added.

Being asked what the major challenge is, Shafeenul said that the major challenge is to up-to-date BGB technologically to keep pace with the world.

To set up BOP (border outposts) in unprotected border areas is also another challenge, he said.

As part of economic development activities among the border people, boats have been distributed among 100 fishermen and more will be distributed, said the DG.

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Day-2020 is being celebrated today (Sunday) through various programmes at its Pilkhana headquarters and all battalions across the country.
