Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have protested against the custodial death of writer Mushtaq Ahmed and against arrests and lawsuits filed against the protestors who were protesting his death in Shahbagh.
The students led a protest rally from the foot of the Aamor Ekushey sculpture of the university at 5:30pm on Saturday and went around several roads inside the university area.
The rally ended at the foot of the Shaheed Minar where the students held a civic gathering.
Leaders and activists of JU Student Union, JU Student Front and Jahangirnagar Cultural Alliance were present at the rally.
During the protest rally, General Secretary of the student union of Jahangirnagar University Rakibul Rony said, "Writer Mushtaq rotted in jail for ten months and later gave away his life for some Facebook statuses. People protesting in Shahbagh against the unfairness were also arrested by the police."
"False and fabricated cases have been filed against these innocent people. The cases filed against them should be immediately withdrawn and the people arrested should be released."
During the procession the students also demanded that the government renounce the Digital Security Act, withdraw cases filed under that law and release those held in custody.
