Dhaka South Mobile Courts file 11 cases for violating lockdown restrictions
The mobile courts were operated by Dhaka South’s Regional Executive Officers and three Executive Magistrates of the corporation’s Property Department
The Dhaka South City Corporation today conducted 10 mobile courts to monitor the proper observance of the lockdown measures and filed 11 cases for the violation of government restrictions, non-compliance with the hygiene rules and for keeping shops open without permission.
The mobile courts were operated by Dhaka South's Regional Executive Officers and three Executive Magistrates of the corporation's Property Department.
Regional Executive Officer (REO) Merina Nazneen of Zone-1 of Dhaka South conducted the operation at Bailey Road, Moghbazar, Hatirpul and New Market areas today. All the businesses that were open after 3 pm were closed during the drive. Traders of the Hatirpul and New Market retailmarkets (Kacha Bazar) were encouraged to temporarily arrange their shops on the side of the road outside the market to sell fish, meat, and vegetables.
REO SuyeMenjo conducted the operation at Zone-2's Shahjahanpur Bazar, Motijheel Colony Bazar, andShantinagar Bazar. At the time, some 150 shops and individuals were warned for not complying with the government restrictions.
About the campaign, the Dhaka South's Property Officer and Executive Magistrate Muniruzzaman said, "Most people are spontaneously complying with this year's lockdown. Yet, in some places, we have seen a tendency to disobey government restrictions. Usually, we don't want to fine people. But considering the larger interests of the nation, we have had to be strict this time."
REO Babar Ali Mir of Zone-3 conducted mobile court in PalashiMorKachabazar of Ward 26 and Beribadh Area of Ward 55. REO MdHaidar Ali of Zone-4 conducted raids in Babubazar, Kaptanbazar, Dholaikhal, Bahadur Shah Park and Lalkuti areas of Wards 32, 34, 42 and 43.
REO Md ShahinurAlam of Zone-5conducted raids at Maniknagar Bazar in Ward 7 and Sutrapur Bazar in Ward 44. REO Mohammad Sakhawat Hossain Sarkar of Zone-6 conducted raids at Tultulia Bazar and Dhitpur Bazar in Ward 70. At the time, he warned about 50 shops for not complying with the government restrictions properly.
REO Mohammad Mamun Mia of Zone-10 conducted raids in Shyampur and Donia areas of Ward 58, 60 and 61 and several other areas.
Other than that, a mobile court led by Dhaka South's Property Officer and Executive Magistrate Md Muniruzzaman visited other markets and shops in Zone-2 including Khilgaon and Sipahibagh markets. The court filed five cases and imposed a fine of Tk8,300 in cash for violating government restrictions during this time.
Tanjila KabirTropa, executive magistrate of the corporation, conducted a mobile court at Zone-3's Palashi Bazar and fined Tk1200 in two cases.
The corporation's Executive Magistrate AH Irfan Uddin Ahmed conducted raids in different areas of Zone 5, 9 and 10. Four cases were filed during this time and Tk5900 were fined.
Dhaka South also conducted other raids at different areas under its jurisdiction where along with the mobile courts, local councillors also cooperated.
During the campaign, all the courts urged the public to abide by the lockdown instructions. People wereencouraged to not leave the house unnecessarily and were advised to use face masks, hand sanitisers and to maintain social distance. Extensive miking was also carried out in various areas of South City urging everyone to comply with lockdown instructions.
