Stern action against police personnel if found involved in casino business: Quader
The minister also said Dhaka-Sylhet four-lane highway work could not be started due to lack of fund
Obaidul Quader, Awami League general secretary, said that stern action would be taken, if any member of the law and enforcement agency is found involved in the illegal casino business.
While applauding the ongoing drive against casino business and corruption, he said that the Awami League-led government has begun the drive with a cleanup operation of its own party, adding that the Prime Minister directed to take action against anyone involved in corruption and illegal business.
Obaidul Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges minister, said this to the reporters as he laid the foundation stone of the Highway Zone Office building in Sylhet on Friday.
Mentioning the recent drive as cleaning-up operation, the minister said members of the law and enforcement agencies arrested several leaders, including Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan for running illegal casino business and GK Shamim for tender manipulation, despite belonging to the ruling party.
Earlier, Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon, former Chhatra League president, and Golam Rabbani, the general secretary, of the 'student front' were removed for extortion.
About forming council, the minister said the tenure of all most all of the committees in the districts, upazilas, municipalities, unions and wards within the country have been expired; and we must elect new committees before December 10, as the National Council is set to be held on December 20-21 of this year.
On the subject of banning the three-wheeler human haulers from plying on road, the minister said work is going on to ban the human-haulers (namely, Korimon and Nosimon).
