More than two hundred of teachers and students were staging protest at Jahangirnagar University till filing of this report at 11:30pm Tuesday.
Students from Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall, Begum Sufia Kamal Hall, Pritilata Hall broke the locks of the hall gates and joined the protest on the campus.
Some Senate members have also joined with the agitating students to express their solidarity.
Barrister Shihab Uddin Khan, a Senate member of JU, told the Business Standard, "The university is not running smoothly due to the inefficiency of the VC. She has crossed all levels of corruption."
"Finally her domestic cadres attacked on agitating teachers and students. This why we have come here on the campus to express solidarity with the protest. We condemned the attack and demanded the resignation of corrupted VC," he added.
Earlier, authorities closed Jahangirnagar University for an indefinite period after the ruling party's student wing Chhatra League attacked the protesting teachers and students today, leaving at least 20 injured.
The students were asked to leave the dormitories by 5:30pm on the day, many of them left the dormitories. Meanwhile, authorities have given verbal permission to the students, who could not leave the halls, to vacate the dormitories by 10am tomorrow.
However, the protesters have refused to abide by and vowed to continue their movement demanding resignation of the VC.
Security has been beefed up on the campus to maintain law and order.
