A member of Parbatya Chattogram Jana Samhati Samiti (MN Larma) was gunned down by another member of the party in Baghaichari upazila of Rangamati district on Tuesday night.

The deceased was identified as Bishmitra Chakma, 35, Anwar Hossain Khan, officer-in-charge of Baghaichari Police Station, confirmed the matter.

The body was sent to Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital for postmortem after police recovered it, he said.

"Relatives of the deceased have said that they will file a case in this regard," he added.

However, Sudarshan Chakma, Baghaichari upazila chairman and legal secretary of the Central Committee of Jana Sanghati Samiti (MN Larma), said, " Bishmitra and Sujan, who has allegedly killed the youth, were involved in our party but we did not know that Sujan had secretly joined the Jana Samhati Samiti led by Santu Larma."

He further said, "I have come to know that after killing Bishmitra, Sujan fled the scene and joined Santu Larma's party."

When contacted, Tridib Chakma, organizing secretary (upazila committee) of the Santu Larma-led Jana Samhati Samiti, said, "We do not know anything about this. It is their internal matter."
