The deceased was identified as Mong Shakhawat Hossain aka Masud, 47, who hailed from Sandwip, Bangladesh.

A Bangladeshi-American Lyft driver died in a hit and run by a drunk driver on Sunday morning at Queens in New York, US.

The deceased was identified as Mong Shakhawat Hossain aka Masud, 47, who hailed from Sandwip, Bangladesh.

The incident took place around 4am at the intersection of Fresh Pond Road and Elliott Avenue in Maspeth, Queens.

Police said 22-year-old Erik Chimborazo was drunk when he ran a red light and T-boned Hossain's car. Surveillance video showed the impact of the crash.

Hossain was taken to Wyckoff Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His passenger suffered minor injuries.

Authorities said Chimborazo left the scene on foot but later returned and was arrested.
