2 Mymensingh pharmacies fined for selling masks at higher price

A mobile court in Mymensingh today fined two pharmacies Tk15 thousand for selling the face masks at higher prices and not keeping the money receipts.

The district administration, led by executive magistrate Nahidur Rahman, operated the mobile court in Durgabari area of the city to check price hike of the masks.

Biolab Surgical Pharmacy was fined Tk10 thousand and SK Medicine Pharmacy was fined Tk 5,000 under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

The owners of the pharmacies have to serve 10-day and seven-day in jail respectively, if they fail to pay the fines.

During the drive, the executive magistrate asked the traders not to make extra profit by selling the face masks, provide money receipts to buyers and keep a copy of those. Otherwise, they will face fine or other punishment.

In a visit to the market, this correspondent saw the face masks were being sold for Tk150-250 following three persons diagnosed with coronavirus infection.  But, the price of the masks was Tk70-75 a week ago.

On Sunday, Bangladesh has diagnosed its first cases of the novel coronavirus as three persons – including two members of one family – have been infected with the virus.
