Bangladesh reports 23 more Covid-19 deaths, 1,493 new cases

Bangladesh has confirmed 23 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours till Wednesday 8am.
The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 5,861, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Meanwhile, 1,493 people tested positive for Covid-19. The number of novel coronavirus cases in the country is now 403,079.
The latest day's infection rate was 12.08% of the total tests, while the overall rate in the country to date was 17.55%. The death rate now stands at 1.45%.
In the last 24 hours 1,610 patients were declared free of Covid-19, raising the total number of recoveries to 319,733 with a 79.32% recovery rate.
Among the latest day's victims, 19 were men and four were women. Twenty-one of them died in different hospitals across the country while two died at home.
Moreover, 16 of them hailed from Dhaka, five from Chattogram, and one each from the Khulna and Rangpur divisions.
Meanwhile, 12,357 samples were tested in 111 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 22,96,321 samples have been tested in the country so far.
The gender breakdown of Covid-19's victims shows that 4,513 of the total deceased were men and 1,348 were women.
The country's first cases were reported on 8 March this year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
