Covid-19 infection rate drops to 2.3%
16 more deaths from the virus were reported in the last 24 hours
Bangladesh saw a daily infection rate of 2.3%, with 316 people testing positive for Covid-19 on Monday.
Earlier, on Sunday, the country's daily infection rate was 2.35%.
Bangladesh logged 16 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours till Monday at 8am, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The country's death toll from the deadly virus rose to 8,221 and the death rate to 1.53%.
The number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 538,378.
Meanwhile, 559 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 483,931 with an 89.89% recovery rate.
Amongst the latest day's victims, 12 were men and four were women. All of them died in different hospitals across the country.
Moreover, 12 of them hailed from Dhaka and one each from the: Chattogram, Rajshahi, Barishal, and Rangpur divisions.
A total, 13,762 samples were tested in 206 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, 3,762,774 samples have been tested in the country since the outbreak of the pandemic.
The country's first Covid-19 case was reported on 8 March, 2020 and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
