The Election Commission (EC) has imposed a restriction on the plying of trucks and pickups in Dhaka-5 constituency for 24 hours starting from this midnight ahead of the upcoming by-polls.
The EC earlier barred plying of motorcycles from 12am on October 15 till October 18 midnight, giving the concerned deputy commissioner or officials the authority to impose the restriction.
Apart from motorcycles, pickups and trucks, all other means of transport can move on the roads as usual.
According to an EC notice, this restriction will be relaxed for the contestants in the election, their agents, local and foreign observers, provided they take permission from the returning officer.
The ban will not be applicable to local or foreign journalists covering the election, election officials, law-enforcers, authorized election observers and vehicles used for emergency services such as ambulances, fire service, electricity, gas, post and telecommunication.
