As part of its regular eviction drives, the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) conducted raids for the second consecutive day against non-allotted illegal shop occupiers in the capital's Kaptan Bazar area on Thursday.
Mohammad Moniruzzaman, property officer and executive magistrate of DSCC, carried out the raids in the Building-2 of Kaptan Bazar market and ousted the remaining 79 occupiers of non-allotted illegal plots.
The illegally occupied shops were then sealed off, according to a press statement issued by the city corporation.
Earlier on Wednesday, the city corporation conducted the drive in the market and evicted 70 illegal occupiers from it.
The DSCC mobile courts also conducted drives to identify Aedes mosquito breeding grounds in Santinagar and Demra areas of the city.
"We have conducted drives against illegal shop occupiers in the market for the two consecutive days, ousted a total of 149 encroachers and sealed off those shops," Mohammad Moniruzzaman said.
Meanwhile, Md Kazi Foysal, executive magistrate of DSCC, conducted a drive in the Shantinagar area of Ward No 12 and visited 32 establishments to detect Aedes mosquito larvae.
During the visits, he found mosquito larvae in two establishments and imposed Tk75,000 fines on the owners.
Meanwhile, Ferdous Wahid, another executive magistrate of DSCC, conducted similar drives in the New Town Signboard area of Ward No 66.
He visited 35 establishments and slapped fines of Tk50,000 on the owners of three establishments where Aedes larvae were found.
Mobile courts had slapped a fine of Tk1.21 lakh in five cases on Thursday alone.
