On Tuesday, road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader said, containing the spread of the coronavirus infection and resisting radical groups are the two challenges before the government.

He made the remarks while inaugurating a 50-km stretch of road from Cox's Bazar Link Road to Unchiprang in Teknaf of the district, joining virtually from his official residence.

Quader, also general secretary of the ruling Awami League (AL), said further coordinating government work and consolidating the unity of the party has become more important in tackling Covid-19 infections and the challenge of preventing the activities of radical groups.

Noting that there is 'laxity' among  people even in the deteriorating situation of the pandemic, the top leader of the Awami League called upon all to abide by lockdown restrictions strictly.

Quader urged party leaders and activists to come forward in a united fashion for the cooperation of people from all walks of life, forgetting all their differences.

Commenting that the BNP has shown itself to be irresponsible by holding the government responsible for everything, the AL general secretary said now they are also blaming the government for deaths due to nor'westers.

The BNP has lost the ability to consider what the responsibility of the government is and what is not, he said.

When one considers 'What the BNP has done for the welfare of the country and the nation in these difficult times of Covid-19 pandemic'- their 'mal-politics` and irresponsibility towards the people becomes evident, Quader said.
