Dhaka University wins inter-university competition under the HSBC Water Programme

The finale of inter-university photography and film competition, #Action4WASH was held at the capital's EMK Center in Dhanmondi on Tuesday, December 24, 2019.

The competition was organised as a part of HSBC Water Programme, under the continued partnership between WaterAid and HSBC group.

Team "Viewfinder" from Dhaka University (DU) and team "Prottyasha" from University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) participated in the finale, where the team from DU won the competition.

The competition started in November 2019, raising the curtain for students from Dhaka University and ULAB to compete to showcase the ground level impacts of HSBC Water Programme in climate vulnerable areas through film or photography.

A total of five teams reached the primary stage of the competition.

Team "Viewfinder" from the Department of Television, Film and Photography of Dhaka University and Team "Prottyasha" from the Department of Media Studies and Journalism competed for the finals based on their strong storyline, previous filming experience on development-related issues, and exceptional team composition.

Both teams prepared their films which were premiered in front of a seven-member jury, following a one-week hands-on field experience.

The DU team won with their documentary titled 'Shashmul', portraying the water, sanitation and hygiene challenges that the Munda community of Shyamnagar, Sarkhira faced and the changes that have now been brought about in their lives due to the interventions of the HSBC Water Programme.

The team from ULAB secured the runners-up position with their documentary that showcased the effects of climate change in Tahirpur, Sunamganj.

The wining prize for the competition was Tk100,000.

The competition is one of the many youth engagement activities WaterAid is currently carrying out.
