ACC quizzes DGHS driver Malek’s wife
Nargis Begum allegedly owns two seven-storey residential buildings on a six-katha plot at South Kamarpara near the River Turag
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is interrogating Nargis Begum, the wife of driver Abdul Malek – who was suspended from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) – as part of its investigation into illegal wealth worth hundreds of crores of taka.
Nazrul Islam, assistant director of the ACC, grilled Nargis for two hours at the ACC's office Tuesday morning.
Allegedly, Nargis, a housewife, owns two seven-storey residential buildings on a six-katha plot at South Kamarpara near the River Turag area on the outskirts of the capital.
There are a total of 24 flats in those two buildings.
Apart from this, she also owns a dairy farm on 15 kathas of land, an estimated 10-12 katha plot and a 10-storey under-construction building on a four-and-a-half kathas of land in Hatripul area, Dhanmondi.
Further, Nargis has an enormous amount of cash in various bank accounts under her name.
RAB arrested Abdul Malek on 20 September on charges of dealing in counterfeit notes and extortion.
The ACC had been investigating Malek ever since.
