Covid-19 daily death toll jumps to 50 after two days of decline
The number of new cases and tests had declined amid the Eid-ul-Adha holidays

Bangladesh has confirmed 50 more deaths from the novel coronavirus – and 1,918 new cases – after testing 7,712 samples in the last 24 hours till 8am Tuesday.
With this, the national death toll from the deadly virus rose to 3,234, and the total number of infections stood at 244,020.
Earlier, the health directorate confirmed 22 deaths from the virus on August 2 and 30 on August 3. The number of new cases and tests also declined amid the Eid-ul-Adha holidays.
Additionally, some 1,955 patients recovered during the 24-hour period, increasing the tally of recoveries to 137,905.
"Of the dead patients, 44 were men, and six women. A total 29 of them hailed from Dhaka, five from Chattogram, four, each, from Rangpur and Khulna, five from Rajshahi, and one, each, from Mymensingh, Sylhet and Barishal," Additional Director General (administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr Nasima Sultana revealed during the daily virtual health bulletin on Tuesday.
"Forty-five of them died in different hospitals, and five at their respective homes," she added.
Some 2,549 men have died from Covid-19, while 685 women have died of the virus.
Division-wise, out of 3,234 fatalities till date: 1,549 or 47.9 percent hailed from Dhaka, 775 or 23.96 percent from Chattogram, 237 or 7.33 percent from Khulna, 198 or 6.12 percent from Rajshahi, 154 or 4.76 percent from Sylhet, 127 or 3.93 percent from Barishal, 124 or 3.83 percent from Rangpur, and 70 or 2.16 percent from Mymensingh.
Professor Nasima urged people to come for testing if they have symptoms of Covid-19.
She said without tests and detection of Covid-19 patients, it is not possible to prevent the spread of the highly contagious virus.
