Police have recorded the statement of actor Pori Moni, who accused a businessman of assaulting and threatening her with murder last week.

A team from Rupnagar Police Station of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) recorded her statement last night and is now on its way to the Savar police station, where the case will reportedly be filed.

Actor Shamsunnahar Smrity, popularly known as Pori Moni, on Sunday night in a press conference alleged that a businessman assaulted and threatened to murder her at Uttara Boat Club on Wednesday night.

Hours before the conference, she posted a Facebook status disclosing that someone had tried to rape and murder her and sought justice from the prime minister.

Pori Moni stated that she had requested support from police stations and even the Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed in the last four days since the event, but no one came to her rescue.

She also claimed that the day after she was assaulted and threatened with murder, she went to Actors' Equity General Secretary Zayed Khan and former president of the Directors' Guild Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar to demand justice.

However, they advised her not to speak to the media about the situation and assured her that the problem would be resolved.
