Independent University and Pathao honour 26 women

Independent University of Bangladesh (IUB) and the ride sharing company Pathao jointly awarded 26 women for their outstanding contributions to different sectors in the country.

As part of the celebration programme for the International Women's Day, the organisers handed over the awards to these unsung women on Sunday at an event at the IUB campus, said a press release.

The women who received awards, contributed to the country's different sectors including business, academia, healthcare, law enforcement, arts and media, sports, and journalism.

"Bangladesh is moving forward to become a middle-income country. So, it is our responsibility to ensure the active participation of women to achieve the sustainable development goals," said Hussain M Elius, chief executive officer of Pathao Limited.

"The state along with the society has to foster the idea of women in leading positions. This event stands as a testament to the brilliance of women and IUB and the Pathao are proud to take part in this joint initiative to celebrate womanhood," said Professor Milan Pagon, acting vice chancellor of the Independent University of Bangladesh.
