Amphan damages crops, shrimp enclosures in Khulna’s Koyra-Paikgachha
Most of the unions under Koyra Upazila of Khulna have been inundated due to the cyclone Amphan, according to local administration
The shrimp enclosures and crops worth over Tk100 crore have been washed away by the cyclone Amphan in Koyra and Paikgachha Upazila of Khulna last night.
Aktaruzzaman Babu, local MP of Koyra-Paikgachha Upazila told The Business Standard, "The huge number of shrimp enclosures and crops on vast lands in my area (Khulna-6) has been inundated. The total damage is more than Tk100 crore in the upazilas".
Most of the unions under Koyra Upazila of Khulna have been inundated due to the cyclone Amphan, according to local administration.
Shimul Kumar Saha, the Upazila nirbahi officer of Koyra, said, "The surge damaged several embankments in 10 spots of Koyra. We are assessing the total damage of shrimp enclosures, crops, dwelling houses."
Humayun Kabir, chairman of Koyra Sadar Union, said, "The six unions of Koyra among seven have been inundated and caused huge damages."
Bachchu Sheikh, a resident of Uttar Vetkashi Union, Koyra, said, "One among my three shrimp enclosures were fully washed away by flood water and others two partially damaged."
Meanwhile, a minimum of six unions of Paikgachha Upazila have been inundated due to the cyclone.
