BGMEA welcomes new board of directors of Chattogram region
The BGMEA elections were held simultaneously in Dhaka and Chattogram on 4 April
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has welcomed its new board of directors of the Chattogram region.
It also bid farewell to the former board at an event held on Thursday afternoon at the association's regional office in Khulshi in the port city.
Outgoing first vice president Mohammad Abdus Salam and outgoing vice president AM Chowdhury Selim welcomed Syed Nazrul Islam, the new first vice president of the BGMEA Board of Directors (2021-23) and vice-president Rakibul Alam Chowdhury.
Congratulating the newly elected board, Mohammad Abdus Salam said, "I hope the new board will make the BGMEA's activities more dynamic and take it forward with the combination of the experience of the old and the new.
Newly elected first vice president Syed Nazrul Islam said the industry-friendly stability in the garment industry in Chattogram is due to the work ethic and efficient leadership of the past boards.
The present Board will continue its efforts to address the current crisis in the garment sector and will take necessary steps to enhance the image of the sector in the international arena under the leadership of the new president Faruque Hasan, he added.
Faruque Hasan took part in the event virtually and sought everyone's cooperation in managing the activities by turning the challenges into opportunities in the current crisis.
Among others, newly elected directors MDM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, Tanvir Habib, AM Shafiul Karim (Khokon), Md Hasan (Jackie), M Ehsanul Haque, Miraj-e-Mostafa Kaiser and outgoing directors Anjan Shekhar Das, Mohammad Atiq, Khandaker Belayet Hossain, Enamul Aziz Chowdhury, former directors Nafid Nabi, Saif Ullah Mansur and Amjad Hossain Chowdhury were present.
The BGMEA elections were held simultaneously on 4 April in Dhaka and Chattogram. Out of 35 director posts, nine directors were elected from Chattogram.
