Daily death toll dips to 21, lowest in 2 months
DGHS reported 21 more deaths from coronavirus and 2,199 new cases in last 24 hours

Bangladesh's Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) today confirmed 21 more deaths, lowest in past two months, from the novel coronavirus and 2,199 new cases of infection testing 8,802 samples in the last 24 hours.
With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 3,132 and the number of total infections stood at 239,860.
The latest day's infection rate was 24.98 percent today, which is the second highest daily infection rate till date, while the overall rate in the country settled at 20.23 percent.
"Of the dead patients, 16 are men and five women. Moreover, nine of them are hailed from Dhaka, five from Khulna, three from Chattogram, two from Barishal, and one each from Rajshahi and Mymensingh division," Additional Director General (administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the latest figures during the daily virtual health bulletin today.
"Twenty of them have died in different hospitals and one at his respective home."
According to the age group analysis of Covid-19 victims as of today, the highest number of patients - 47.80 percent or 1,451 - died till date are aged sixty and above. The age groups of 51-60 and 41-50 come next with respectively 28.77 percent (901) and 13.98 percent (438). Rest of the age groups stand under seven percent, such as- 31-40 with 6.55 percent (205), 21-30 with 2.78 percent (87), 11-20 with 1.02 percent (32) and under ten with 0.57 percent (18).
The gender-wise analysis of the victims disclosed that some 2,662 people who have died from Covid-19 are males and 670 are females, which are 78.61 percent and 21.39 percent respectively.
District-wise, out of 3,132 fatalities till date, 47.80 percent or 1,497 are hailed from Dhaka division, 24.33 or 762 percent from Chattogram, 7.22 percent or 226 from Khulna, 5.94 percent or 186 from Rajshahi, 4.82 percent or 151 from Sylhet, 3.99 percent or 124 from Barishal, 3.77 percent or 118 from Rangpur, and 2.17 percent or 68 from Mymensingh.
Dr Nasima Said, "Some 8,669 samples were collected in the last 24 hours and 8,802 were tested in 82 labs across the country. So far 1,185,611 samples have been tested."
Besides, some 1,117 patients have recovered during the time, increasing the tally to 136,253.
Around 56.81 percent of novel coronavirus patients – both symptomatic and asymptomatic – have recovered in Bangladesh so far, while 1.31 percent have died.
Currently, 56,272 people are quarantined across the country – including 1,655 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 381,869 people have completed their quarantine course.
The country is capable of accommodating 31,991 people at 629 institutional quarantine facilities across the country.
Nasima Sultana said, "The authorities placed 771 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 18,581 after 32,900 left."
As many as 18,992,351 hotline health services were given by 16,498 trained and 4,217 volunteer doctors via three designated numbers, including 61,712 in the last 24-hour till 8am today.
Via the telemedicine service, everyday a total of 100 doctors and health officils in two shifts are providing Covid-19 advice, that has been availed by 153,767 people till date including 1,628 in the last 24 hours.
The virus has killed 683,389 people globally and infected 17,778,646 so far.
