Chattogram Jail prisoner dies of Covid-19

A Chattogram Central Jail prisoner undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital died of Covid-19 on Sunday.
Alauddin Talukder, assistant sub-inspector of Chattogram Medical College police outpost, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
Deceased Md Kamruzzaman, 37, was the son of Abdul Rahman Dulal of Sarail upazila in Brahmanbaria district.
Jail sources said Kamruzzaman was sent to this jail on 23 February this year after he was arrested in a case under the Narcotics Control Act.
On 10 April, he was admitted to the medicine ward of the hospital with fever.
Later, he was facing breathing problems and the hospital authorities tested him for the coronavirus. On Saturday, the test results came back positive and he was immediately shifted to the hospital's corona unit where he breathed his last on Sunday.
Zahirul Haque Bhuiyan, in-charge of the Chattogram Medical College police outpost, said the doctor concerned issued a death certificate, mentioning Covid-19 as the cause of death.
Once the legal procedures are completed, the dead body will be handed over to the family of the demised prisoner, he added.
