Old man trampled to death in Mymensingh

An old man was trampled to death and 10 others got injured, while receiving rice under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme on Saturday at Fulpur Mahila Degree College in Mymensingh.
The diseased was identified as Hafiz Uddin, 65, of Amuakanda area under the Fulpur Municipality.
Imarat Hossain Gazi, officer-in-charge (OC) at Fulpur Police Station, informed that the Fulpur Municipality authority was to distribute rice under the VGF programme on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha on Saturday, asking people to come to Fulbari college campus to receive rice.
As more and more people were coming in, the municipal authority, at some point, closed the main gate of the college. At one stage, the crowd waiting outside the gate broke in, and in the mad rush into the college campus some people including women got trampled under feet, said the OC.
The injured were admitted to the Fulbari Upazilla Health Complex. Later, Hafiz Uddin was sent to Mymensingh Medical College hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injury.
