BU to recall Quazi Azher on his death anniv
Milad and dua mahfil will be held in Dhaka and his ancestral home Tuesday
The Bangladesh University (BU) will pay tribute to its founding chairman and vice-chancellor Quazi Azher Ali Tuesday marking his 11th death anniversary.
According to a press release, the university officials will visit the grave at Banani graveyard in Dhaka at 11.00 am. Other programmes to mark the death anniversary include a milad and doa mahfil and food distribution among orphans.
Besides, Quran khani and doa mahfil will also be held at his ancestral home at Fakirhat upazila in Bagerhat.
Azhar Ali was an eminent educationist who established several educational institutions, including the Mohammadpur Preparatory School and College and Bangladesh University.
He joined the then Pakistan Civil Service in 1959. He did his PhD from Cambridge University and served in various capacities as a sub-divisional officer, additional deputy commissioner, deputy commissioner and secretary in different ministries.
After the independence of the nation, he served as secretary in six different ministries under different governments.
He breathed his last on 15 December in 2009 at the Bangladesh Medical College Hospital.
