The High Court (HC) ordered reserve seat lawmaker Selina Islam, wife of Lakshmipur-2 MP Kazi Shahid Islam Papul and their daughter Wafa Islam to surrender before the court within 10 days.

A virtual bench comprising High Court Justice Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Ahmed Sohail passed the order today.

Khurshid Alam represented the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) while senior lawyer Abdul Baset Majumder and lawyer Saeed Ahmed Raja stood in favour of the bail application. Deputy Attorney General A K M Amin Uddin represented the state during the virtual session.

Earlier on 26 November, Papul's wife Selina and daughter Wafa applied for anticipatory bail in the High Court.

Before that on 11 November, Deputy Director of the ACC Md Salahuddin filed a case against four people including Kazi Papul and his wife for laundering Tk148 crore along with illegal assets worth Tk2.31 crore. The other accused in the case are Papul's daughter Wafa Islam and Selina's sister Jasmine Pradhan.

Currently, Papul is in a Kuwaiti prison on charges of money laundering and human trafficking.

On 26 February, the Anti-Corruption Commission moved to investigate the allegations of human trafficking and money laundering against Kazi Shahidul Islam Papul.
