BD vs SL: Tigers comfortable as no harm done in last session of the day

6:05 pm

The batting trio of Tamim, Shanto and Mominul kept Bangladesh in a comfortable position at the end of the first day's play.

Shanto bagged his maiden Test hundred as he remained unbeaten on 126 runs, he faced 288 balls for that.

He's been at the crease since the second over of this Test match, and he's batted with great discipline through almost the entire day.

Skipper Mominul bagged yet another fifty and remained unbeaten on 64 as the day's play came to an end.

The duo built an unbeaten 150-run partnership from 311 balls.

Tamim Iqbal failed after he started the day brilliantly. He fell 10-run short of his 10th Test hundred.

Another opener Saif Hassan went for a duck.

Bangladesh didn't lose any wicket in the third session.

Bangladesh finished the day on runs for the loss of 2 wickets.

Vishwa Fernando picked up both the wickets.

4:50 pm

Tossed up wide of off stump, and Shanto leaned into a gorgeous drive that beat extra-cover to his left and long-off haring to his right. What a glorious way to bring up a maiden Test hundred!

Superb innings from the young man, possibly a breakthrough moment in his career

Shanto was a bit shaky earlier in his innings but he came back strongly and never looked back since then.

His hundred came from 235 balls where he hit 12 boundaries and 1 maximum.

Skipper Mominul Haque has accompanied him pretty well and he too is eyeing fifty now.

These two now have built an unbeaten 100-run partnership.

Bangladesh 252 are for 2.

3:15 pm

This was another outstanding session for Bangladesh, who lost just Tamim Iqbal after lunch.

Skipper Mominul is on the other side of the crease with 21 runs to his name.

The pitch has not done a lot for the seamers and hasn't had a lot of carries.

2:15 pm

Tamim Iqbal failed to convert a pretty solid knock to a hundred as he was caught at slip off Vishwa Fernando.

Tamim was eyeing his 10th Test hundred but departed for 90 off 101 deliveries.

Shanto is unbeaten on 53 as skipper Mominul joined him in the middle.

Bangladesh are  154 for 2.

12:30 pm

Bangladesh have gone to lunch at 106/1 in 27 overs.

Tamim Iqbal and Najmul Hossain Shanto built an unbeaten 98-run partnership after Saif Hassan went back to the pavilion for a duck early in the morning.

Tamim remains not out on 67 runs while his partner Shanto bagged 37 runs.

Vishwa Fernando picked up the only wicket of the session.

A superb session for Bangladesh after they chose to bat first.

12:10 pm

Tamim Iqbal bagged his 29th Test fifty in ODI style.

He has scored 60 runs off 61 balls so far. There were 12 boundaries hit on the way.

Shanto accompanying Tamim very well as has reached 28 off 66 balls.

Bangladesh are currently 91 for 1 after 22 overs.

11:45 am

Tamim Iqbal and Najmul Hossain Shanto are rebuilding the innings after Saif Hassan's early dismissal.

These two already formed a 50+ partnership in the 12 overs they have bat together.

Tamim Iqbal going at a good strike rate, bagging 44 off 40 deliveries. He has hit 9 boundaries so far.

Shanto is supporting him well.

Bangladesh are 59 for 1 after 14 overs.

10:44 am

Saif Hassan has gone back to the pavilion without scoring.

There was an lbw shout that was denied. Sri Lanka opted to review and it turned out to be a good one.

A length ball from Vishwa Fernando, straightening off the deck and hitting Saif's front pad just below the knee roll. That was clearly hitting the stumps, but the confusion was it pitching in line with leg stump?

The ball tracker said it was!

Three reds for Saif, and Vishwa has a breakthrough in his first over.

Najmul Hossain Shanto comes to the middle to join Tamim.

10:25 am

Bangladesh skipper Mominul Haque won the toss and elected to bat first in the first Test in Kandy.

He felt the pitch looked a little dry, and he expected the spinners to come into the game in the fourth innings. Dimuth Karunaratne hoped his fast bowlers could exploit the early moisture.
