Appellate Division upholds stay on 4 more cases against Khaleda Zia
A full bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, passed the order on Sunday
The Appellate Division has upheld the High Court order suspending the proceedings of four more sabotage cases filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia with different police stations in the capital, including Darussalam.
The court has ordered settlement of the High Court ruling regarding nullification of taking the charges of the four cases into cognizance.
A full bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, passed the order on Sunday.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam took part in the hearing on behalf of the state, accompanied by Deputy Attorney General Biswajit Debnath, while Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon represented Khaleda Zia.
Earlier on August 18, the Appellate Division upheld the High Court order suspending three cases filed with the capital's Darussalam Police Station and one with Jatrabari Police Station on charges of sabotage and violence.
In 2017, Khaleda Zia filed an appeal with the High Court, challenging the legality of the cases filed (against her) in 2015. Consequently, the High Court issued a stay order on the cases.
An Appellate Bench, headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, upheld the High Court's order on Sunday.
The Dhaka Judicial Court has fixed October 6 for the hearing in 11 cases including these eight cases and Khaleda Zia has been ordered to appear before court on that day.
Hearing on charge sheet for one of the cases has also been scheduled for that day.
