Indo-Bangla private sector’s joint investment in sub-Himalayan region stressed
The Confederation of Indian Industry delegation members called for facilitating visas for Indian traders to come to Bangladesh
Business leaders at a discussion have stressed joint investments of Bangladesh-India private sectors' to set up industries for bolstering business, trade and commerce in the sub-Himalayan region.
They opined this at the discussion organised by Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) at RCCI auditorium here on Saturday night.
A delegation from Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) attended the function.
The discussion was arranged before the upcoming "CII 7th North Bengal Conclave" to be held at Siliguri city in India to focus on Investment, Export Promotion and Logistics for Northern West Bengal on December 21 next.
The CII in association with West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation is organising the event aimed at promoting Northern West Bengal as a business and investment destination.
Business delegations and entrepreneurs from eight northern districts of West Bengal and other parts of India along with Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal are expected to participate in the conclave and reach trade and joint investment deals in B2B meetings.
Vice-chairman of the CII North Bengal Zonal Council Sanjit Saha attended the discussion as the chief guest with RCCI President Mostafa Sohrab Chowdhury Titu in the chair.
Past Chairman of the North Bengal Zonal Council of CII Kamal Kishore Tewari, it's Zonal Council Members Vinoy Kumar Gulati and Manna Chowdhury, Proprietor of 'Suvidhaa Aapki' Hemant Kumar Agarwal and other deliberation members spoke.
Senior Vice-president of RCCI Mostoba Hossain Ripan, Members of its Board of Directors, female entrepreneurs, importers and exporters addressed.
The speakers highlighted various possibilities of trade, commerce and joint investments in prospective sectors in northern Bangladesh, a northern region of West Bengal and other sub-Himalayan region's countries under joint private sector ventures.
The CII delegation members called for facilitating visas for Indian traders to come to Bangladesh, launching Syedpur-Bagdohra air communication, relaxation of foreign investment policy and setting up industrial factories in a joint venture.
Sanjit Saha urged businesspersons and industrialists of Bangladesh and Rangpur division to attend the CII 7th North Bengal Conclave.
He called upon traders of both countries to set up industries through joint investments and play an important role in the conclave to accelerate the pace of trade and commerce of the two countries.
RCCI President Titu said the prevailing problems of businesspersons between India and Bangladesh will be raised at the upcoming CII 7th North Bengal Conclave.
"The RCCI will urge Finance Minister of West Bengal Dr Amit Mitra, who is expected to attend the conclave at Siliguri as the chief guest, to eliminate the trade deficit," Titu added.
He said there is considerable potential for setting up agro-based industries through joint ventures in Rangpur region which is highly rich in agriculture.
"As the sub-Himalayan region's connectivity has become a reality, the investors and businesspersons of all four countries can take the opportunity for expanding regional trade, commerce and business in the region," Titu added.
