Bangladesh reports another 3,163 new Covid-19 cases with 33 deaths in a single day

Covid-19 cases cross 1.9 lakh mark

Another 3,163 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours until Tuesday morning, raising the tally of total infections to 1.90 lakh.

Out of total infections, more than 1 lakh patients have recovered so far while the current infection rate against total tests stands at 23.51 percent.

In the last 24 hours, 4,910 patients recovered from the disease.

"The recovery rate now stands at 54.31 percent," said Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of Directorate General of Health Services, at the daily online bulletin on the Covid-19 situation on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, 33 people died from the virus infection in the last 24 hours.  With this, death toll from the deadly virus rose to 2,424.

Among the deceased, 23 were men and 10 were women. Thirteen of them hailed from Dhaka, five each from Sylhet and Khulna, three from Chattogram, four from Rajshahi, two from Rangpur and one from Barishal division, said Professor Dr Nasima Sultana.

She said that 29 patients died in different hospitals while four died at their respective homes.

The gender-wise analysis of the victims shows that 1,913 people who died from Covid-19 were males and 511 were females, which were 78.92 percent and 21.08 percent respectively of the virus mortality.

District-wise data show Dhaka division topped in mortality rate with 49.83 percent death while Chattogram was second with 25.81 percent death.

Dr Nasima said, "13,988 samples were collected in the last 24 hours and 13,453 were tested at 79 labs across the country. So far 966,400 samples have been tested."

According to the health directorate, the overall infection rate in Bangladesh is 19.67 percent till date.

Dr Nasima said the authorities placed 861 new virus suspects into isolation.
