A joint team of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) seized 24 illegal phones and fined five shops with Tk9 lakh during a drive at Jamuna Future Park in the capital on Thursday. 

BTRC Deputy Director SM Golam Sarwar and RAB Executive Magistrate Md Aktaruzzaman led the joint team.

Illegally imported smartphone of different brands including iPhone, Oppo, Xiaomi and One Plus were seized during the drive.

Of the five shops, 19 illegal smartphones were seized from Phone Village and it was fined with Tk50,000, five phones from i-point and fined with Tk50,000, KRY International was fined with Tk1 lakh, Mobile House Tk2 lakh and Composter Pvt Ltd was fined with Tk5 lakh.
