The activists of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh have gone berserk in Brahmanbaria as they attacked Jela Parishad, district Awami League, press club and municipality offices today during hartal.
The hartal supporters hurled brick chips at the aforesaid offices.
They also attacked Brahmanbaria Press Club President Riaz Uddin Jami. He sustained injury on head and currently undergoing treatment at Brahmanbaria General Hospital.
More than 25 journalists were inside the press club when Hefazat men attacked the press club.
The Islamist group has enforced daylong hartal today protesting over the deaths of its activists in Chattogram and Brahmanbaria in police action, and Bangladesh visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Hefazat men became violent in some parts of the country from the beginning of the hartal today. They hurled stones at Chattogram-bound train, forcing authorities to suspend rail communication on Dhaka-Chattogram and Dhaka-Sylhet routes.
They also set fire on two buses in Rajshashi and on an electric pole in Brahmanbaria.
In Dhaka, they have taken position in different spots with bamboo sticks. They chased away a group of Awami League in Paltan area.
Leaders and activists of Hefazat blocked Dhaka-Chattogram and Dhaka-Sylhet highways, and taken position on different roads in the capital as they enforced daylong hartal since Sunday morning.
On Saturday, five Hefazat activists were killed and dozens injured as they clashed with police and BGB members in Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila.
