The government will set the fees for health services, including treatment, test and others, in private hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres, said Health Minister Zahid Maleque.

To that purpose, the government will select the private hospitals based on their category.

The health ministry will form a powerful committee soon. Next steps will be taken as per the committee report, he also said.

The health minister was addressing a review meeting on services of private hospitals, diagnostic centres and clinics at his office in the secretariat on Wednesday.

At the meeting, Minister Maleque requested private hospitals and clinics to extend full cooperation to the government in dealing with the second wave of coronavirus. At that time, private clinics and hospitals pledged all possible assistance.

On behalf of hospitals, Mubin Khan, president of Bangladesh Medical Association, proposed the health minister to centralise the system of medical waste management, to which the minister agreed.

Secretary of the Department of Health Services Md Abdul Mannan, Director General of the health directorate Prof Abul Basar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, Director General of the Department of Health Education Prof AHM Enayet Hossain, General Secretary of Bangladesh Medical Association Anwar Khan, Principal of Dhaka Medical College Khan Abul Kalam Azad, and other representatives of private hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres were also present on the occasion.
