Five people have been hacked to death abruptly by a rickshaw-puller at Radhanagar village of Cumilla's Debidwar upazila on Wednesday.
The accused was lynched by an angry mob afterward.
Four of the deceased are Anwara Begum (40), her son Abu Hanif (12), Nazma Akter (35), her mother Majeda Begum (52).
Additional Police Superintendent Azim Ul Ahsan and Debidwar Police Station OC Jahirul Anwar confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
Mokhlesur Rahman, 35, a rickshaw-puller of the village, was lynched by an angry mob as he killed four local women aged between 35 to 52 and a 12-year-old boy Hanif, the OC said.
After quarrelling with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver, Mokhlesur went home and made argument with his wife. Then he rushed out insanely and hacked 5 people to death.
Mokhlesur’s wife said, his husband had mental disorder.
“I ran out of home as he (Mokhlesur) tried to kill me,” she added.
Two people were also injured by the rickshaw-puller.
