Journalist Muzakkir’s death: Jubo League leader on 3-day remand

A Noakhali court today placed Jubo League leader, Belal Hossain on a three-day remand over the death of journalist Muzakkir during a clash between two factions of Companiganj Awami League and police.
District Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Judge SM Mosleh Uddin Mizan passed the order on Monday afternoon.
Investigating officer of the case, also the Noakhali Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Inspector Mostafizur Rahman said, "Belal was arrested from Basurhat Bazar in Companiganj on Sunday afternoon and produced before the court on Monday morning seeking a five-day remand."
Following the hearing, the court granted Belal a three-day remand for questioning. He will be taken to the PBI office for questioning.
Members of the PBI held Belal Hossain from Bashurhat market around 1pm on Sunday. He is a member of the union Jubo League unit.
Noakhali PBI Inspector Mostafizur Rahman said they held Belal after raiding the market based on a tip-off. He is the first to be arrested in the case. Belal is being interrogated, the officer added.
On 19 February, Muzakkir received bullet wounds while he was photographing and filming clashes between the supporters of Basurhat Municipality Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza and former Companiganj upazila chairman Mizanur Rahman Badal, both local Awami League leaders.
Muzakkir, the Noakhali district correspondent of online news portal Barta Bazar was rushed to Noakhali General Hospital and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died at 10:45pm on 20 February.
Muzakkir's father Maulana Nawab Ali Master, a retired primary school teacher, filed the case on 23 February.
