Saif Powertec tasked with Chittagong Port management
Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase took the decision at the secretariat on Wednesday

Private berth operator Saif Powertec Ltd -- that handles containers and cargos at Chittagong Port -- has been reassigned.
Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase took the decision at the secretariat on Wednesday.
“In Chittagong Port's Container Terminal area, the work of managing container and container-carrying cargo is difficult. So, following Public Procurement Rules 2008 and single stage to envelope system, we have approved the purchase proposal of appointing an operator for six years,” said Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
The estimated cost for the project is Tk 304 crore and the Ministry of Shipping will implement it, he explained.
The ministry called tender for the appointment of the operator. Four companies purchased it, while one submitted the tender.
"The Tender Evaluation Committee recommended Saif Powertec as a sole responsive company. Based on that everyone agreed to appoint the company as the terminal operator for six years," concluded the finance minister.
