Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College will operate as a dedicated treatment facility for patients with Covid-19 from tomorrow.
The matter was confirmed by the hospital's director Md Khalilur Rahman Tuesday.
Md Khalilur Rahman said, "We have completed all preparations required to establish a dedicated coronavirus treatment facility."
With 100 beds dedicated to treat coronavirus patients, the hospital has four ventilators and 10 ICU beds.
Arrangements for food and accommodation for the medical staff have been made inside the hospital campus so that they do not have to leave the hospital grounds for essentials.
Deputy director of the hospital Tapan Kanti Sarker said, "Patients who have tested positive for coronavirus will be admitted to the hospital. Tests will be conducted at Institute of Epidemiology, Disease control and Research (IEDCR) in Dhaka for their follow up treatment."
"Asymptomatic patients can get treatment via telecommunication from on-duty specialist doctors while staying in isolation inside their homes. Only symptomatic patients will be provided treatment inside the hospital," Tapan added.
People with coronavirus symptoms would have to have their samples tested elsewhere under the supervision of the civil surgeon as the hospital would not be conducting any tests, said Tapan.
