The local administration has locked down Cox's Bazar today to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus in the district.
"Starting from this afternoon, the lockdown will continue until further notice," Deputy Commissioner Kamal Hossain told The Business Standard.
"We want to keep people of Cox's Bazar safe from the virus. We don't want anyone from our district to get infected. We are imposing the lockdown so that no one can get in or out of the district," Kamal Hossain added.
"We have been asking people to stay indoors and supplying them with food when necessary. I would request everyone to stay indoors and keep yourself, your family and the country free from coronavirus," he further said.
So far 20 people have died from the virus in Bangladesh and 218 are infected with it.
