US lauds Bangladesh’s role in tackling Covid-19
United States Department of State Deputy Coordinator for Global Covid Response and Health Security Laura Stone has praised Bangladesh for tackling the spread of Covid-19 skillfully.
"Despite being a densely populated country, Bangladesh's success in combating the Covid-19 virus is unprecedented and it is a role model for many countries in the world," said Laura Stone during a meeting with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam at his office on Tuesday (2 August).
After arriving in Dhaka on a two-day visit, Laura Stone expressed sincere congratulations to Shahriar Alam on the completion of 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
They openly discussed various bilateral and multilateral issues, mentioning the close relations between the US and Bangladesh.
Thanking the US for donating Covid vaccines, the state minister expressed hope of expanding the areas of cooperation in the coming days.
Stone discussed the issue of a joint organisation by Bangladesh and the US at the ministerial level meeting of the Global Action Plan for Covid-19 Response to be held next September.
She expressed hope that Bangladesh will play an active role in this meeting.
Besides, Rohingya issue, climate change, bilateral trade and other important bilateral issues were discussed in the meeting.
Earlier, Deputy Coordinator Laura Stone met Secretary (West) of Foreign Affairs Shabbir Ahmad Chowdhury, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and discussed bilateral issues between the two countries. The meetings were attended by high-ranking officials of the ministry, along with US Ambassador Peter Haas.
