If any Awami League nominated candidate commits any misdeed in the ongoing municipality election, they will not get nomination in future, warned Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader.

"If any leader violates the party's regulations or perpetrates any wrongdoing which may tarnish the party's reputation, they will be punished," Obaidul Quader warned the party's leaders.

Asking the leaders to form committees at the grassroots level, Quader said no post in those committees should be given in exchange of money. "Dedicated leaders will be given party posts," he said.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, urged all Awami League members to obey the party rules, keep discipline and work together.

He was addressing the inauguration of a programme to distribute winter clothes among the poor. The programme was organised by the Dhaka South City Awami League in front of the Awami League Central Office on Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka on Thursday.

Quader said Bangladesh Awami League always stands beside the poor and helps them during every disaster.

"In all the crises, Awami League comes forward while people from other parties only talk and criticise", he said adding, "During the pandemic, the Awami League workers at all levels went door to door with relief materials and offered assistance."

"By doing this, the party set an example and that is the reason why people bring Awami League to power frequently through voting," he added.

"In contrast, the BNP is not doing anything for the people. They only want to grab power by any means. Their political ideas are foggy and they are shivering in the winter," he said.

At the event, President of Dhaka South City Awami League Abu Ahmed Mannafi said they will continue distributing winter clothes till the end of this winter season.

Leaders from different levels of the party were also present at the programme.
