Dateline Barguna: 509 shelters ready to face Bulbul
A total of 509 shelters, including 341 cyclone centres, have been opened in Barguna as cyclonic storm 'Bulbul' is approaching towards the district's coastal belts.
"Around five lakh people can be accommodated in those cyclone shelters," said Barguna Deputy Commissioner Md Mostain Biilah.
Eight control rooms have been set up in the district. A total of 42 medical teams were formed in six upazilas and community radio "Lokbetar" will broadcast weather bulletin until the threat of Bulbul passes.
A meeting on preparations for the cyclone was held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner's office on November 8.
Besides, a total of 7,000 volunteers are ready to offer help.
Around 200 tonnes of rice, 350 packets of dry food, Tk10 in cash for each and corrugated iron sheets were also allotted for the people who would be affected by the cyclone in the district.
President of Barguna Fishing Trawler Owners' Association Golam Mostofa Chowdhury said, "Around 3,000 fishing trawlers have anchored safely in the coastal areas and canals in the Sundarbans."
