A Dhaka court has put Jasmine Islam, Hallmark Group chairman, behind the bars, on Sunday, for embezzling Taka 85.87 crore from Janata Bank.

Through opening fake letters of credit, she reportedly did this.

Jasmine surrendered to Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Qayes’ court and appealed for bail, earlier.

The High Court allowed Jasmine – wife of Hallmark Group Managing Director Tanvir Mahmud –bail on 10 March.

However, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court scrapped the order, on 16 June, and ordered her to surrender to the lower court within four weeks.
