Awami League workers decreasing, leaders increasing: Obaidul Quader
"We don’t need such leaders; we need true workers today"
The General Secretary of the Bangladesh Awami League, Obaidul Quader, said, "I think the number of Awami League workers are decreasing, and leaders are increasing."
He made the comment while addressing the tri-annual conference of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Awami League on Sunday afternoon, at the Madrasa Maidan in Rajshahi.
"We don't need such leaders; we need true workers today. Looking at the stage shows how many leaders we have. Vibrant pictures can be seen on billboards, but people do not even know them," Quader added.
"We need sacrificing, tested, and true workers," he explained.
Quader further said, "If you make a committee with people bought with money, the party will fall into the hands of opportunists. I don't want any opportunists, corrupt people and terrorists in the Awami League."
He also said that people should not create parties within parties, and not buy people's support with money for creating the parties, and should not facilitate opportunists. He urged people to appreciate the workers who support the party during bad times.
The AL general secretary remarked that the Awami League has to unite to make sure that evil communal forces cannot come to power.
Awami League presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak' Abdur Rahman, joint secretary; information minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, among others spoke at the conference.
The meeting was chaired by city mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, President of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Awami League.
