Eight aides at BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's Gulshan residence, "Firoza", have tested positive for Covid-19.

Md Mamun, personal physician of Khaleda Zia confirmed the matter Sunday, reports Prothom Alo.

The list of affected persons includes the BNP Chairperson''s housemaid as well.

"Five or six days ago, one of Khaleda Zia's staff had a fever who came back positive after being tested. The rest of the staff who shared the same room were then tested. They also came back positive," Md Mamun said.

He noted that Khaleda Zia was also diagnosed with the disease when a test was carried out later to ensure her safety.

Mamun added that treatment has been arranged in "Firoza" for the infected staff.

He added that a cabin at a private hospital has also been reserved as advance preparation.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia tested positive for novel coronavirus on Saturday.

Health Ministry spokesperson Maidul Islam confirmed the matter and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also disclosed it officially during a press conference in the afternoon.

Khaleda Zia, 76, has been suffering from arthritis pain, diabetes, eye problems, and other old-age problems.

As of now, only 9.5m draught vessels could anchor at the port, each carrying 2,500 TEUs.
