7th BPL to start in December with Opening Ceremony
The 7th edition of Bangladesh’s lone franchise league will be held in December, said the BPL officials on Sunday. And after three editions, it is set to start with a grand inauguration ceremony.
The first edition of BPL was held on 2012, and all of the first three editions kicked off with a grand opening ceremony where artists from across the globe performed. But the last three editions opted out from arranging an opening ceremony to initiate the tournament, but this time around it looks like the stage is set for it.
According to BPL’s interim chairman Sheikh Shohel, country’s lone franchise-based Twenty20 tournament, they are planning to host a grand opening ceremony after a gap of three years.
‘’Bangladesh team will return from India [after playing over there] in November and following their return they are expected to take some day of,’’ Shohel told reporters on Sunday.
‘’We are planning to start the BPL from December 6’’, he said. ‘’We are planning to host an opening ceremony on December 4.”
“We didn’t have any opening ceremony in the last three BPL. If everything goes as per our plan and no natural or political disaster take place we are confident that we can start BPL as per our plan,’’ he said.
‘’We have also sent letters to the seven franchises,’’ he concluded.
For the first time, two BPL editions will be held in a single year, with the 6th edition being held on January-February earlier this year. With an opening ceremony in sight, this edition of the tournament can gain extra momentum without even a single ball being bowled.
