Reception honours 101 policemen who recovered from Covid-19 in Narayanganj
The policemen had contracted the virus while on duty
Narayanganj police have held a reception honouring 101 police officials who have won their personal battles against Covid-19. The reception ceremony took place at Police Lines in Masdair of the district on Monday afternoon.
Zayedul Alam, police superintendent of the district, handed out floral wreaths to the police officials.
Additional Police Superintendent (Administration) Monirul Isla, Additional Police Superintendent (Crime) Abdullah Al Mamun, among others, were present at the ceremony.
"Some 149 police members were infected with Covid-19 in Narayanganj. Among them, 101 have recovered and rejoined their duty stations. The remaining 48 are still fighting with the deadly virus and receiving medical treatment at the isolation centre constructed by police," said Zayedul Alam.
"Narayanganj police took different initiatives to inspire its members, and we expect that the remaining police officials will recover shortly," he added.
The police officials, who recovered from Covid-19, said that they contracted the virus while on duty.
However, the higher authority of the district police took proper care of their treatment. So, they did not lose hope and confidence.
"My husband and I tested Covid-19 positive on May 5. We have a young child and we lost hope. The higher police officials monitored our condition, and even sent us daily necessities," said Suchona Akter, an assistant sub-inspector of the district police lines.
In the district, 135 people have been affected in the last 24 hours and two people have died, according to Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research sources.
So far, 82 people have died in the district from Covid-19 and 2,923 people have contracted the virus.
Additionally, 806 people have recovered from novel coronavirus in Narayanganj, confirmed Dr Md Imtiaz, civil surgeon of the district, on Monday.
