Chinese university students collect 500kg waste from St Martin’s
They vowed to continue their cleaning activities in the future too
In an effort to increase awareness about environment pollution, a team of students of a Chinese university have collected around 500 kilogrammes of waste from Saint Martin's island.
Upholding the slogan "Say No to Plastic", 11 students of Nanchang Hangkong University, led by Bangladeshi students Sazid Kabir Sazi and Ashraful Islam, collected for the last three days the waste dumped by tourists at different times.
The students have come to Bangladesh to spend holidays on the occasion of Chinese new year.
They vowed to continue their cleaning activities in the future too.
The environment of the country's only coral island is getting polluted day by day with the increased pressure of tourists.
Every day, at least 10,000 to 20,000 tourists visit St Martin's Island located about 9km south of the tip of the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf peninsula.
