‘Govt to import rice if millers don’t supply as per agreement’
Those who do not supply rice to government warehouses will be blacklisted

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder has asked all rice mill owners to keep the rice market stable and supply rice to warehouses following the agreement with the government.
But if millers do not supply the rice as per their contract, it may force the government to import rice, he said on Wednesday, while addressing a virtual meeting from his official residence, organised by the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA).
The minister said, "The rice procurement process is underway but not at the desired pace."
"Those who supply rice to government warehouses will be in the good books. And those who do not supply rice will be blacklisted," added Sadhan Chandra Majumder.
The food minister also said, the activities of the BFSA were halted over the Covid-19 situation. He also urged the authorities to intensify their activities to ensure adulteration-free food.
Highlighting the need to set up a modern laboratory, the minister said, "First of all, a laboratory is needed and training of officials is also required. If mobile testing laboratories could be set up in every district, more food could be tested. And people would know and be aware of it."
