8 fined, 50 detained in Khulna for not wearing masks
The courts fined eight people to Tk 6,500 for flouting the rule
Fifty people were detained and eight others were fined by two mobile courts for defying the coronavirus health guideline of wearing masks in Khulna city today.
The mobile courts were conducted by executive magistrates at two places in the city.
Meanwhile, the courts also fined eight people to Tk 6,500 for flouting the rule.
Md Yusuf Ali, additional district magistrate of Khulna district administration, said that the administration has taken a strict stance to contain the second wave of Covid-19 infection. People who came out in public places without masks are initially detained.
Further decisions regarding detainees will be taken later, he said.
Despite the drive, our Khulna correspondent has found that people are moving without wearing masks on various roads of the city including Dakbanglo Junction, Picture Palace Junction, Sir Iqbal Road, Kedighosh Road and Cemetery Road.
Earlier on 21 July, the government made wearing masks mandatory for its citizens in public places to limit coronavirus transmission.
The government also decided to implement a "No Mask, No Service" policy at all offices to curb further spread of the virus.
Under the policy, the government and private offices will not serve anyone who is not wearing a mask.
Earlier on 8 November, the government directed people of all faiths to wear masks while visiting places of worship, including mosques, temples and churches across the country to contain the transmission of the second wave of the virus.
