65-km long tailback on Dhaka-Tangail highway
The number of trucks carrying sacrificial animals for Eid-ul-Adha and passenger buses on the highway have created the gridlock
A 65-kilometre long tailback has been created on Dhaka-Tangail highway today, causing immense sufferings to the holidaymakers ahead of Eid.
According to the highway police, the number of trucks carrying sacrificial animals for Eid-ul-Adha and passenger buses on the highway have created the gridlock.
Besides, the toll plaza of Bangabandhu Bridge was closed for 89 minutes, which also caused the traffic jam on this highway. However, there is no permanent traffic jam anywhere. Vehicles are moving very slowly.
Such a scenario was seen in different areas of the highways on Friday morning.
Tangail Superintendent of Police Sanjit Kumar Roy said, "The number of vehicles on the highway has increased several times more than the usual due to Eid."
He said the tailback is expected to be normal within the next two to three hours.
